Hate preacher Abu Hamza is having problems with his new set of rubber hands following a dispute over who will pay for them

Hate preacher Abu Hamza still hasn't got to grips with a new set of rubber hands following a dispute over who will pay for them.

He was fitted for a pair of custom made £12,000 rubber hands after U.S. officials said he could not wear his metal hook while awaiting trial on terrorism charges.

Hamza, who was extradited to America from Britain in October, had his right hook removed because they were ruled to be a security risk.

A firm supplying prosthetic limbs visited him at the top security prison in New York last month to take measurements for a custom made pair of rubber hands.

But the firm have not returned for a follow-up fitting as they are worried that they will not get paid.

Hamza's lawyer Lindsay Lewis said the supplier is worried a new vendor system introduced by the US Bureau of Prisons means they will not get paid.

The cost of the cable operated hands is being picked up by the U.S. taxpayer.

As a result Hamza is only allowed to wear his metal hook when he is alone in his prison cell at the Manhattan Metropolitan Correction Centre.

Hamza,54, lost both hands to an explosive device while fighting in Afghanistan, but only wears a metal hook on his right hand.

He was jailed for seven years in 2006 for inciting violence with his sermons in London.

Hamza fought a two year battle against extradition to the US who wanted to put him on trial for supporting al Q'aida and trying to set up a terrorism training camp in Oregon.

Lawyers for Hamza have claimed he struggles to feed and clean himself without his hook.

His wife recently wrote on a website that he is unable to comb his hair.

Hamza has pleaded not guilty to 11 terrorism charges with his trial due to start on August 26.

Lawyers for the terror suspect tried to get the trial date moved back to 2014 as they have so much evidence to examine but judge Katherine Forrest told them she would not move delay the trial.
